It’s been such a busy time in France its taken me a couple of months to get out onto the nearest decent golf course. Unfortunately there is no “local” golf course near Passirac, which means a beautifully relaxing 35 minutes drive through the vineyards of Cognac to get to Golf du Cognac. The course is built in the middle of the vineyards and provides an interesting backdrop to the course.
The course itself is in great condition with its greens built to USPGA specification and were rolling true and fast even at the beginning of November. In general the whole course is immaculately presented. At 41€ for 18 holes it’s a bargain (this can also be reduced to 32€ with the purchase of a Golfy discount card).
The course isn’t too demanding but we only played off the yellows, off the whites it is nearly 6800 yards for a par 72. There are some great holes namely the Par 3 8th, Par 5 9th ( a real risk and reward approach over a lake), Par 5 11th (needing 3 accurate strike to a small raised green), Par 3 15th (200 yards with a lake on the left ready to take anything not hit properly) and the long Par4 17th with out of bounds all down the right.
The 18th is a generous par 3 played in front of the fabulous stone built clubhouse where there is a great bar and restaurant. The off course facilities are fantastic, a great pro shop and locker room. Across the road is a driving range, 6 hole par 3 course and teaching school providing the full experience for every ability and need.
If you are in the Charente area this and fancy a knock, just let me know and I will gladly make join you.
